Job description

The Assistant General Manager reports directly to the General Manager and assists the sales team with day‑to‑day operations. The role combines sales leadership, customer service, and staff supervision to help members achieve their health and wellness goals.

Position Purpose

Lead, coach, and train the sales team to create a welcoming atmosphere, serve as a hub of information for members, guests, and staff, and drive the gym’s mission to build lifelong fans and exercise practitioners.

Responsibilities

• Ensure sales targets are met, especially on weekends or in the absence of the General Manager, by leading and motivating the team.
• Sell club memberships, individual memberships, fitness services, products, and programs while meeting or exceeding sales goals.
• Oversee billing, monitor the sales process, and ensure timely follow‑up with leads and prospects.
• Communicate goals, expectations, and procedures to staff, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities.
• Supervise facility maintenance and cleanliness, including equipment, locker rooms, and common areas.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, obtain proper certifications, and implement safety protocols.
• Deliver high‑quality customer service by addressing member concerns, managing membership inquiries, and resolving issues promptly.
• Engage members in a friendly and approachable manner, actively listening to their needs and providing clear responses.
• Communicate calmly and clearly with staff and members during emergencies or unexpected disruptions, providing necessary instructions and updates to ensure safety.

Qualifications

• 2 years of customer service experience.
• 3–4 years of sales experience.
• 1 year of supervisory experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with employees, management, and vendors.
• Excellent relationship‑building and influencing skills across all levels.
• Strong attention to detail, systematic problem‑solving, and good time‑management, organization, and record‑keeping.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Prior experience or strong interest in the fitness industry is a plus.

Requirements

• Background check clearance.
• Must obtain CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to work in a gym setting, move about club floors and rooms, and communicate with employees, members, and the public.
• Ability to bend routinely and repetitively to lift more than 40 lb.
• Proficiency in using the company computer system, including document preparation, data entry, and report review.
