The Buttery is seeking an Assistant General Manager in Malvern to lead daily cafe operations alongside the General Manager and drive a culture of care, quality, and guest satisfaction.

You will mentor teams, manage scheduling and costs, uphold health and safety standards, and partner on marketing initiatives to grow the business while delivering outstanding hospitality. This is a hands-on leadership role for a proactive, organized leader who thrives in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of café/shop management experience with strong food & beverage operations.
• Proven leadership to motivate and guide a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent customer service mindset delivering warm guest experiences.
• Strong organizational and financial skills including budgeting and reporting.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with staff, customers, and vendors.

Overview

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a vital role in the daily success and long-term growth of The Buttery. Working closely with the General Manager, the AGM helps oversee all aspects of café operations, from leading and supporting the team to ensuring exceptional customer experiences and maintaining high standards across service, quality, and efficiency.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, loves hospitality, and brings a strong sense of ownership and care to everything they do. The ideal candidate is an experienced food and beverage leader who is organized, adaptable, and passionate about building strong teams and positive culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of the store and café alongside the General Manager, stepping in as Manager on Duty as needed, and driving a positive, efficient, and accountable team culture.
• Ensure exceptional customer service, handling inquiries and resolving issues to uphold a welcoming and professional guest experience.
• Oversee staffing and scheduling, including training, coaching, and performance support, while managing labor to meet operational and budget goals.
• Support financial and operational goals, monitoring sales, COGs, labor, and expenses, and identifying areas for improvement in workflows and profitability.
• Maintain product quality and merchandising, supporting food and beverage prep, menu development, inventory, and retail display standards.
• Ensure health and safety compliance, keeping all front- and back-of-house spaces clean, organized, and up to code.
• Collaborate on marketing and promotions, assisting with initiatives that drive customer engagement, brand awareness, and sales.
