Job Summary: The Assistant General Manager coordinates all hotel operations as directed and provides direct support to the General Manager. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of hotel operations, a positive attitude, and the ability to train and motivate associates to exceed brand and company requirements.
Job Functions
- Assigns duties to staff and observes performance to ensure adherence to hotel policies and operating procedures
- Provides training to staff
- Selects or assists in the hiring of hotel staff and completes new hire paperwork
- Supports team members to ensure their daily workload is attainable and completed by end of shift
- Assists with employee scheduling and timecard maintenance
- Reviews employee performance and assists in conducting personnel actions such as disciplinary actions and terminations
- Assists in maintaining accurate records including cash flow sheet, direct bill accounts, credit card receipts, registration cards, reservation cards, tips and gratuities, and credit cards
- Conducts or assists in conducting department meetings
- Adheres to all franchise and company procedures
- Assists in resolving guest complaints and employee issues
- Covers shifts in all departments as scheduled by the General Manager
- Performs functions of the General Manager in their absence
- All other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, use of hands, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
Competencies & Qualifications
- Maintain confidentiality of business and financial matters and information related to the property, owner(s), partners, guests, associates, etc.
- Communicate effectively and professionally verbally, in writing, and by telephone; make presentations
- Work in a fast‑paced, high‑energy, demanding environment
- Knowledge of hotel operations or ability to learn quickly
- Problem analysis and problem‑solving skills
- General computer knowledge, including word processing, spreadsheet, and internet use
- Guest relations skills
- Prompt and regular attendance
- Work nights, weekends, and holidays; flexible hours as required by business needs
- Collaborate with team leaders and managers; act as a team player at all levels
- Comply with hotel and department uniform and professional appearance standards
Education & Experience
- Hotel Management, General Business, or Marketing degree preferred but not required
- At least 4 years of hotel or management experience preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Willingness to complete a background check in accordance with federal and state laws
