Job summary

The Office of Corporate Counsel at CareFirst Baltimore seeks an Assistant General Counsel to provide a full range of legal services with a focus on regulatory, compliance, litigation, and employment law, representing the company before the MIA and OAH.

The role handles hearings, lawsuits in Maryland courts, advises management on complex matters, and supports other counsel. Must have a JD and bar admission in MD or DC; prior health insurance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assembles the files, prepares witnesses and exhibits, and handles regulatory hearings independently.
• Handles lawsuits in Maryland District Court and Circuit Courts.
• Provides advice and counsel to management on regulatory, contractual, compliance, and governance matters.
• Supports Litigation General Counsel and employment counsel as necessary.
• Independently handles mediations and arbitrations.
• Reviews subpoenas and other court documents; oversees bankruptcy filings and guides legal staff.
