Job description

KPMG is currently seeking a Assistant General Counsel, Contracting and Technology to join our Office of General Counsel organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the Head of the Technology and IP group this individual will serve as a trusted legal advisor, drafting and negotiating complex technology transactions and leading contract discussion related to data privacy and information security, counseling product development teams and discussing privacy terms with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Draft and negotiate complex agreements; lead legal negotiations for complex, high-value client-facing and vendor-facing technology agreements, including artificial intelligence, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), licensing and professional services agreements
  • Establish and align specialized terms, end-user agreements and vendor contracts for AI-related technologies, generative AI models and data reuse
  • Structure and execute sophisticated Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), and information security addenda (ISAs); collaboratively review technical security exhibits with cybersecurity and IT professionals to ensure alignment with enterprise standards
  • Stay abreast of rapidly evolving federal, state and international data privacy and AI laws (including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, EU AI Act and emerging US state laws)
Qualifications:
  • Minimum eight years of recent law practice, with a strong focus on technology transactions, intellectual property and data privacy; combination of top-tier law firm training and in-house corporate legal department experience is highly preferred
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing; Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or CIPM) designation is highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate highly technical legal concepts (such as model training, data rights, encryption) into plain language for executives and non-legal partners
  • Proven ability to manage a heavy volume of transactions independently, prioritize tasks effectively and lead cross-functional projects

For this current opening, our target hiring salary range is $265000 to $357000 based on the immediate requirements and scope of the role. The current full market salary range for this job level is disclosed below. This broader range represents potential future income growth available over the course of a career in this position. Potential income growth is determined based on relevant factors such as skills, performance, job responsibilities, experience, certain degrees and certifications, and market considerations.
