Job summary

Constellation Energy Corp. is seeking a highly experienced attorney to work independently with major matter, team or client responsibilities and mentor junior attorneys on project work.

The role involves supervising professional teams on high-stakes matters and providing legal counsel to senior management. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in energy law, retail energy commodity transactions and regulatory environments, and can contribute strategic solutions in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions.
  • At least 10-12 years of professional experience in a specialized area of law.
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the legal field to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and ongoing knowledge of federal and/or state law.

Responsibilities

  • Performs as a specialist in one or more fields of law, provides technical and expert legal services to Constellation Business Units. Under little or no supervision, plans, conducts and supervises large and highly complex legal assignments; evaluates both legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly; represents Constellation in transactions, litigation or other relevant matters.
  • Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff.
  • Prepare, and revise as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for all matters involving outside counsel.

Expected salary range of $219,600 to $244,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

A highly experienced attorney who works independently and has major matter, team or client responsibilities as well as certain responsibilities for other attorneys on a project-specific/mentoring basis. Frequently supervises professional teams working on legal matters. Work generally involves handling matters of very substantial importance.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs as a specialist in one or more fields of law, provides technical and expert legal services to Constellation Business Units. Under little or no supervision, plans, conducts and supervises large and highly complex legal assignments; evaluates both legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly; represents Constellation in transactions, litigation or other relevant matters. Provides legal counsel to all levels of management, including senior management.
  • Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff.
  • Prepare, and revise as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for all matters involving outside counsel.
  • Projects / duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions.
  • At least 10-12 years of professional experience in a specialized area of law.
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the legal field to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and on ongoing knowledge of federal and/or state law.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience handling retail energy commodity transactional work.
  • Experience in ERCOT Market highly preferred. Experience in multiple RTO and ISO markets a plus.
  • PPA, wholesale transactions, REC transactions experience a plus.
  • Experience working with business to properly draft and structure complex energy products and transactions. The qualified candidate will be able to actively contribute ideas and solutions to their business partners in a fast-paced environment.
