Job summary

Constellation Energy Corp. is seeking a senior lawyer to advise on day-to-day operations of non-nuclear generation assets along the East Coast and Midwest. You will partner with operations, commercial, engineering and asset management teams to navigate complex legal issues and develop practical business solutions.

The role requires a JD/LLB and at least 8 years of specialized legal experience, with strong written and verbal communication and familiarity with federal and state law.

  • Manage outside counsel and oversee regulatory matters related to PJM, ISO-NE and NYISO.

Expected salary range of $192,600 to $214,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).


Primary Purpose of Position

A senior lawyer who is a highly qualified attorney handling complex legal matters and projects on behalf of the Company.


Primary Duties and Accountabilities


  • Serve as principal legal advisor supporting the day-to-day operation of Constellation’s non-nuclear generation assets on the East Coast and Mid-West.

  • Partner directly with operations leadership, commercial teams, engineering, environmental, asset management, and legal subject matter experts to identify legal and commercial risk early and develop creative business-oriented strategies that enable safe and reliable operations of the assets.

  • Broad legal experience preferred, with energy, environmental or asset management experience a plus. Will advise on compliance, environmental, financial, real property, tax, commercial, and corporate issues.

  • Draft, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of complex operational agreements, including co-generation steam and energy supply, fuel supply, O&M, LTSA, procurement, construction and real estate agreements.

  • Provide strategic legal support during planned outages, forced outages, emergency operations events, major equipment failures and restoration activities.

  • Assist in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, asset integrations, including due diligence, transaction documentation, regulatory approvals.

  • Manage outside counsel to maximize benefits and minimize costs.

  • Required to have or develop familiarity but not primary responsibility for federal and wholesale power market (PJM, ISO-NE, and NYISO) regulatory matters associated with these power plants (and ability to support associated compliance efforts).

  • Ability to collaborate with Constellation legal department subject matter experts, including Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction/Engineering, Government and Regulatory, Trading and Origination, Tax, Accounting and Public Relations/ Corporate Communications to develop practical legal solutions that support fleet optimization,

  • Build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization by translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable business advice


Minimum Qualifications


  • 8-years professional experience in a specialized area of law

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and to analyze legal materials and data

  • Excellent legal research, analytical abilities, and knowledge of federal and or state law

  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of legal principles, practices, and procedures, with the ability to apply them to complex assignments

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions


Preferred Qualifications


  • 6+years of practicing commercial law in a law firm or corporation, including substantial experience providing commercial legal support to power generation assets or energy infrastructure.

  • Deep understanding of power generation operations in PJM, ISO-NE and NYISO.

  • Experience serving as the primary legal advisor to plant operations, commercial and asset management teams.
