Job summary

ARCO is seeking a service-oriented attorney with a focus on transactional construction work to join its in-house legal team. You will draft, review, and negotiate construction and commercial contracts, collaborating with teams across the United States to implement standard risk management approaches and align with business objectives.

You will manage documentation, lead negotiations with sophisticated counterparties, and contribute to training for non-legal business operators.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Attorney with 5+ years of transactional construction practice.
  • Experience managing a substantial volume of contract review, drafting, and negotiation responsibilities.
  • Experience leading negotiations of construction contracts with sophisticated counterparties.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Flexible, with excellent and timely written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to lead and follow with equal ease, based on circumstances.
  • Desire to work as part of a highly collaborative legal team.
  • Active listener, proactive leadership approach, collaborative and communicative.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage construction and commercial agreements.
  • Collaborate closely with the legal team across the United States to implement enterprise-wide approaches to managing contract risks.
  • Collaborate with project managers and leaders to align business objectives during negotiations.
  • Manage, maintain, and coordinate all documentation related to construction contracts and day-to-day issues.
  • Prepare and present training to non-legal business operators on legal issues in construction.
  • Assess and mitigate ARCO’s risk.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and title companies.
  • Assist Operations and Leadership in problem-solving and risk management.
  • Manage communications and deliverables in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Work with paralegal support as needed.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage construction and commercial agreements
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the legal team located across the United States to implement enterprise-wide, accepted approaches to managing contract risks
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and leaders to understand business objectives when negotiating agreements
  • Manage, maintain, and coordinate all documentation related to construction contracts and day‑to‑day issues arising from construction project operations
  • Prepare and present training to non-legal business operators on legal and legal‑adjacent issues in the construction industry
  • Assess and mitigate ARCO’s risk
  • Maintain and grow relationships with vendors and title companies
  • Assist Operations and Leadership in problem‑solving and managing risk
  • Manage communications and deliverables in a deadline‑driven environment
  • Work well with, and can efficiently direct work of, shared paralegal support.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Attorney with 5+ years of transactional construction practice with a law firm or in‑house with a general contractor
  • Current experience managing a substantial volume of contract review, drafting, and negotiation responsibilities, with a strong preference for attorneys who remain actively engaged in day‑to‑day transactional work
  • Experience leading negotiations of construction contracts with sophisticated counterparties and ability to understand the Owner, Subcontractor and/or Contractor’s points of view
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills are essential for the candidate to identify legal issues and risks, analyze complex problems, and provide practical and effective solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders
  • Flexible, with excellent and timely written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to lead and follow with equal ease, based on circumstances
  • Desire to work as part of legal team that is highly collaborative
  • Active listener, proactive leadership approach, collaborative and communicative
