A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Lead and support the drafting, review, negotiation, and administration of complex construction agreements, including engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreements, and related construction subcontracts, supply and procurement agreements, equipment purchase agreements,
  • Provide strategic guidance regarding contract interpretation, change orders, claims management, dispute avoidance, and day-to-day issues arising from construction project operations.
  • Prepare and present training to non-legal business operators on legal and legal-adjacent issues in the construction industry.
  • Manage communications and deliverables in a deadline-driven environment and efficiently direct the work of shared paralegal support.
  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to business teams, including executive leadership, on commercial, operational, and regulatory matters.
  • Exercise sound judgment grounded in ethics, integrity, accountability, and transparent communication.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including business leaders, executives, developers, contractors, vendors, title companies, and outside counsel.
  • Evaluate legal and business issues holistically, balancing risk mitigation with commercial objectives, and provide practical recommendations to General Counsel and business leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the legal team located across the United States to implement enterprise-wide, accepted approaches to managing contract and other risks.
  • Partner with project managers, Operations, Procurement, Business Development, Finance, Safety, IT, HR, and executive leadership to understand business objectives and support successful project execution and commercial outcomes.
  • Monitor and advise on legal, regulatory, legislative, and industry developments impacting the renewable energy, infrastructure, and construction sectors.
  • Partner with business development, finance, and executive teams on a broad range of project and commercial transactions, including new market opportunities, and develop practical strategies to mitigate associated legal and business risks.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Attorney with 10 - 15 years of experience practicing construction law, with a primary focus on EPC transactions.
  • Experience in, or working closely with, construction organizations or firms preferred
  • Significant experience leading negotiations of construction contracts or dispute resolution with sophisticated counterparties and ability to understand the Owner, Subcontractor and/or Contractor’s points of view
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for the candidate to identify legal issues and risks, analyze complex problems, and provide practical and effective solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders
  • Flexible, with excellent and timely written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to lead and follow with equal ease, based on circumstances
  • Desire to work as part of legal team in offices across the United States that is highly collaborative
  • Active listener, proactive leadership approach, collaborative and communicative
  • Enjoy working in the office, in a fast-paced, growth-oriented business environment
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while working under tight deadlines
