The College of Southern Nevada is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to represent the college in legal matters. Responsibilities include litigation, advising on compliance with state and federal laws, and managing outside counsel.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited school and have four years of relevant legal experience. The position offers a starting salary of $141,254 and is contingent upon funding.

The Office of General Counsel represents the College in all legal matters arising from College business. Responsibilities include interpreting constitutional, statutory, and regulatory frameworks; responding to public record requests; managing outside counsel; handling litigation in state and federal courts; addressing agency complaints; and providing legal and policy advice on employment law, student affairs, intellectual property, real estate, contracts, governance, sponsored research, disabilities, drug‑free workplace requirements, IT issues, copyright, defamation, civil rights, sexual harassment, promotion and tenure processes, regulatory compliance, and fundraising.
The Assistant General Counsel reports directly to the General Counsel and assists in providing comprehensive legal advice to senior academic and administrative officers concerning litigation and threatened litigation for all units of the College. The incumbent meets regularly with the General Counsel to ensure consistent application of Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and College policies.
Key duties include litigating on behalf of CSN in State of Nevada and U.S. courts, conducting research and providing litigation and pre‑litigation services, advising leadership on compliance with state and federal laws affecting the College, and handling civil rights/constitutional law, contracts, tort law, employment law, dispute resolution, student rights, public records, public/private partnerships, and additional higher‑education related practice areas.
This position requires occasional travel and irregular hours. Concurrent private practice is prohibited.
Legal Knowledge: Thorough understanding of litigation processes, civil and administrative procedure, substantive law relevant to higher education, employment law, student rights, and educational regulations.
Legal Research: Proficient in performing legal research using various tools.
Contract Law: Familiarity with negotiation, drafting, reviewing, and interpreting various types of contracts.
Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of Title IX, FERPA, ADAA, Clery Act, and other federal and state laws governing higher education.
Risk Management: Ability to assess and mitigate risks specific to litigation and legal disputes within the educational context.
Employment Law: Awareness of employment regulations, labor relations, faculty rights, and employee benefits.
Administrative Faculty E – Starting Salary is $141,254. This position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding.
