Job summary

CBRE Investment Accounting & Reporting Solutions is seeking an Assistant Fund Controller in Los Angeles to coordinate, prepare, and review fund reporting, ensuring client expectations and timely delivery.

The role involves NAV calculations, inputting daily trading and GL activity, producing financial statements, reviewing property-level reports, assisting treasury and journal entries, reconciliations, investor notices, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with fund (NAV) accounting; real estate exposure preferred.
  • Experience with accounting software such as Yardi preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and FASB; familiarity with REIS/IFRS and related standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze, and review periodic NAV calculations.
  • Input daily trading, general ledger activity, and pricing of funds to ensure NAV accuracy.
  • Produce fund financial statements and investor communications including commitments and accruals.
  • Perform detailed review of monthly property-level reports.
  • Assist the treasury, cash management, and accounting function of the fund; post journal entries and money-movement transactions.
  • Prepare investment and position reconciliations and daily cash balance reconciliations.
  • Prepare investor capital call and distribution notices.
  • Troubleshoot issues to ensure timely, accurate internal and external requests; maintain customer service focus.
  • Coach junior staff on an informal basis.

What You'll Do
  • Prepare, analyze, and review periodic NAV calculations.
  • Input daily trading, general ledger activity, and pricing of funds to ensure accuracy of daily NAV calculation.
  • Produce fund financial statements and other required financial information including investor commitments, asset accrual methodology, and output.
  • Perform detailed review of monthly property level reports.
  • Assist the treasury, cash management, and accounting function of the fund. Post journal entries and money-movement transactions.
  • Prepare investment and position reconciliations and daily reconciliation of cash balances.
  • Prepare investor capital call and distribution notices.
  • Troubleshoot issues to ensure internal and external requests are handled timely, accurately, and with a focus on customer service.
  • Coach junior staff on an informal basis.

  • Experience with fund (NAV) accounting required, with real estate industry exposure preferred.
  • Experience with accounting software systems such as Yardi preferred.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations including knowledge of financial terms and principles to include accounting methods (cash, accrual, and full GAAP).
  • Technical financial skills and knowledge of GAAP, FASB, REIS, IFRS, and in-region/in-country standards where applicable.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the assistant fund controller position is $100,000 annually and the maximum salary for the assistant fund controller position is $110,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program.
