Summary

Assistant Financial Counselor

Position Highlights:

• The Assistant Financial Counselor is responsible for coordinating the patient flow throughout the Business Office and answering clinic calls from the main Business Office phone line.
• This role involves triaging patient inquiries, reviewing and scanning financial assistance applications, initiating estimates, handling itemized billing requests, updating addresses, and responding to basic patient account inquiries.
• Additionally, the position provides coverage for the information desk, welcoming patients, guests, and staff.

Responsibilities:

• Review incoming financial assistance applications and document missing information per policy.
• Process itemized billing requests.
• Initiate service estimate requests.
• Scan documents into the financial system.
• Review accounts for financial clearance.
• Answer the main Business Office phone line.
• Sort and distribute Business Office mail.

• Answer basic patient account inquiries both in person and via phone.
• Triages incoming issues to the appropriate department.
• Provide information about contracted insurance plans.
• Maintain current knowledge of federal poverty guidelines and Florida Medicaid policies.
• Document all actions taken on accounts according to policy.
• Serve as backup at the information desk, providing directions and information to patients and guests.
• Provide appointment information to patients.

Education and Credentials:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least one (1) year of healthcare experience related to physician/hospital collections, insurance verification, or financial counseling is required.

Required Skills:

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Proficiency in mathematical calculations and analysis techniques.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
