Job summary

Fremont Farms of Iowa is seeking a hands-on Assistant Feed Mill Operator to assist in producing high-quality feed, keep equipment in good condition, and maintain a clean work environment. You will be trained on the feed making process and will support operators as needed.

Hours are 7am–5pm, Monday to Friday, with potential weekend work. Responsibilities include coordinating production runs, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring accurate feed handling and inventory processes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Awareness and knowledge of mechanical operations of a feed mill and knowledge of proper equipment maintenance preferred.
• Agricultural, mill, grain elevator, industrial or equivalent experience preferred.

Job Summary

The Assistant Feed Mill Operator helps with producing high quality feed, maintaining equipment, and keeping a clean work environment. Your focus will be on housekeeping and maintenance. Also, you will be trained on the feed making process to assist the operators.

Schedule

Hours are 7am-5pm M-F and weekends if needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage ingredient process flow of entire feed mill to include receiving, grinding, batching, and loadout.
• Receive ingredients and maintenance of the feed mill, warehouse, bins, and related equipment.
• Coordinate, plan and execute finished feed production runs for the layer and pullet farms.
• Perform or coordinate preventative maintenance and repair of mill and related equipment as needed.
• Understand internal feed computer systems and process paperwork, orders, or related information to support farm operations.
• Follow established procedures to maintain sufficient ingredients and finished feed inventory levels.
• Maintain a clean orderly work environment.
• Provide back-up support to coworkers and other departments as required.
• Coordinates with other departments on troubleshooting day-to-day equipment concerns with feed consumption, scales, and accurate reporting of feed usage.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Awareness and knowledge of the mechanical operations of a feed mill and knowledge of proper equipment maintenance is preferred.
• Agricultural, mill, grain elevator, Industrial or equivalent experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Good communication skills and a teamwork attitude are essential.
• Computer/iPad skills and understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) Safety Culture.
• Mechanical, electrical, and metal working knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely.
• Independent Self Starter/Team Player
• Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment and have an attention to detail.
• Mathematical ability is required.
• Knowledge of production agriculture or feed operations is preferred.
• Ability to walk and stand for 10 hours/day.
• Forklift, Skid Steer, Front End Loader experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Stand and walk frequently throughout the day. Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
