Seaward Services Assistant Engineer Job Description

Seaward Services is seeking an Assistant Engineer for our operation.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Assistant Engineer is a member of the Engineering Department responsible for the maintenance and operation of mechanical and hydraulic equipment onboard the vessel Seaward Endeavor or Seaward Explorer. Responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and hydraulic equipment, lubricating moving parts, and communicating requirements to company representatives, regulatory personnel, and crew. Minimum DDE 4000 required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting in ship's technical maintenance and the safe, efficient operation of machinery.
  2. Following all engine room procedures.
  3. Supporting engineering/technical department tasks.
  4. Maintaining bunkers and essential engine-related stores and consumables.
  5. Managing the loading and transferring of bunkers safely and efficiently.
  6. Overseeing the daily operation of plant and machinery.
  7. Performing routine maintenance, repairs, and technical jobs under the Chief Engineer's guidance.
  8. Standing engine room watch during vessel underway or as needed.
  9. Logging lube/oil quantities and consumption.
  10. Monitoring and analyzing cooling water.
  11. Maintaining general condition of machinery, steering gear, air conditioning, etc.
  12. Carrying out maintenance tasks and engine room watches.
  13. Assisting with firefighting and emergency procedures onboard.
  14. Training crew members on vessel operations and onboarding new personnel.
  15. Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  1. Valid Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC)
  2. Minimum DD-4000 endorsement
  3. Valid U.S. Passport
  4. Valid USCG Medical Certificate
  5. QMED Endorsement
  6. Valid TWIC Card
  7. Ability to pass a physical exam and written test

Salary: $500 per day, full-time
