Job summary

CORE Group in New York invites applications for an Assistant Engineer to support the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems aboard our vessel. This role offers hands-on exposure to marine engineering and development within a professional, safety-focused environment.

Key duties include assisting with engines and auxiliary machinery, maintaining logs, coordinating water, fuel, and lubricants, and helping with safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

  • Merchant Mariner's Credential, TWIC, and Engineering License required.
  • Pre-employment drug test and physical examination required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform repairs in confined or challenging environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment aboard the vessel.
  • Support supervision of procurement and handling of potable water, ballast water, fuel oil, and lubricants with proper documentation.
  • Perform repairs on onboard machinery within capacity to ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Keep the daily engine log updated and report issues to relevant personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and environmental management systems per client manuals.
  • Ensure watertight integrity, deck machinery, valves, pipes and related components are in good condition.
  • Support safety, operational and environmental initiatives and participate in investigations when needed.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Assistant Engineer to join our dynamic maritime team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems aboard our vessel. Your contributions will be essential to maintaining the vessel's operational excellence and compliance with safety and environmental standards.


Responsibilities


  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including main engines, propulsion, auxiliary machinery, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

  • Support the supervision of procurement, handling, and transfer of potable water, ballast water, fuel oil, and lubricants, ensuring quality and proper documentation.

  • Perform repairs on onboard machinery and equipment within your capacity, ensuring all systems function efficiently and safely.

  • Keep the daily engine log updated and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and environmental management systems as per client manuals.

  • Ensure the vessel's watertight integrity, deck machinery, valves, pipes, and related components are in proper working condition.

  • Support safety, operational, and environmental initiatives and participate in incident investigations when necessary.


Requirements


  • Valid Merchant Mariner's Credential, TWIC Card, and Engineering License.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug test and physical examination.

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Physical fitness to operate heavy machinery and perform repair work in confined or challenging environments, including the ability to lift up to 100 lbs, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.

  • Adequate vision (unaffected by uncorrectable color blindness or impairments) and hearing.

  • Ability to work in wet conditions, handle heavy lines, and operate machinery safely and effectively.

  • Must demonstrate the physical ability to meet the demands of tug and towing operations and ensure own safety, as well as that of the vessel and crew.
