Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Orlando, FL is seeking an Assistant Telecommunications Engineer to support a range of utility projects including SCADA, distribution automation, cyber security, microwave, wireless, fiber, and smart grid.

You will assist in designing networks, preparing project deliverables, and resolving issues while following QA/QC guidelines. The role requires a bachelor's degree and may involve up to 25% travel; this is a full-time position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer or related engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to apply intensive and diversified knowledge to broad assignments.
• Capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Campus or community involvement preferred.

Responsibilities

Description

The Assistant Telecommunications Engineer will assist on a variety of complex utility projects, including supervisory control and data acquisition, distribution automation, cyber security, microwave radio, wireless networks, fiber optics, and smart grid.

• Assist in designing telecommunications networks utilizing client standards or developing new standards.


• Assist with project deliverables such as bill of materials, specifications, yard layouts, equipment plans, sections and details, wiring diagrams, control building arrangements, DC calculations, cable lists, SCADA points list, device configuration files, network architecture diagrams, channel plans, RF path studies, and cutover plans.


• Assist in execution of complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools and techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.


• Identify, communicate and assist in resolving issues on projects as needed.


• Adhere to established project schedule to meet deadlines.


• Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
