Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks an Assistant Electrical Engineer in Chicago, IL to support project teams across power, process, healthcare, airports and industrial facilities. You will assist in the conceptual and design phases, refine drawings, and apply electrical concepts under guidance of senior engineers.

The role involves assisting with client presentations, shop drawing reviews and field measurements, while developing foundational skills in electrical engineering and CAD tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related ABET program required.
• FE exam completion with related degree ABET program required.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard electrical engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in CAD tools and MS Office.
• Familiar with electrical analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD, BIM (Revit/Tekla).
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and problem-solving.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
• Campus involvement preferred.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Assists in electrical design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for various facilities.
• Assists in designing electrical components for project needs.
• Applies basic knowledge of electrical concepts, codes, procedures.
• Assists with research and data collection for projects.
• Assists with updating drawings in CAD software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
