Assistant Electrical Engineer - Federal (Kansas City)

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Electrical Engineer (Equipment Coordinator) to join our team working on diverse projects involving world-class designs for Capital Equipment installations in a government manufacturing facility.

The role involves planning, site evaluations, and preparing construction documentation. Responsibilities include gathering equipment data, collaborating on equipment layouts, and supporting project phases from conceptualization to completion. The position offers an energetic workplace environment with opportunities for career growth and employee ownership.

Responsibilities:
  • Research and compile equipment data from manufacturer’s sheets and conduct site visits.
  • Maintain and update project equipment databases.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
  • Collaborate with design teams to generate equipment layouts.
  • Perform quality checks and assist in project documentation and client engagement.
  • Support additional tasks such as data entry, report preparation, and ad hoc projects.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent). EIT certification preferred.
  • Prior internship or consulting experience is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Security Clearance.
  • Proficiency in electrical engineering techniques, AutoCAD, BIM, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and team skills.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred; involvement in campus/community activities is a plus.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the location.

This position is full-time, with travel expected up to 25%. The posting remains open until filled.
