Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks an Assistant Distribution Engineer in Wallingford, CT to assist licensed engineers on overhead and underground 2.4kV–34.5kV projects. You’ll help design, estimate, and prepare BOMs while performing distribution calculations and supporting field inspections.

The role emphasizes strong communication, attention to detail, and teamwork. FE exam and internship experience are valued; ABET accreditation preferred; US work authorization required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering program preferred.
• FE exam completed or in progress required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of electrical distribution power flow preferred.
• Involvement on campus or community appreciated.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing distribution projects from concept through design completion.
• Prepare voltage packages for overhead and underground systems.
• Create sketches, estimates, BOMs, and deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations (cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading).
• Support field inspections and data gathering for projects.
• Assist with client presentations and project status visuals.
