Responsibilities

  • Assist in dispatching drivers to various locations based on schedule and calls.
  • Assist in determining daily staffing needs and driver deployment.
  • Assign routes and service tickets to drivers throughout the day and for the next day.
  • Direct customer service representatives to contact customers regarding drop-off times or questions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve delivery and pickup issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs; create and maintain truck files.
  • Record information from drivers and distribute to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate with maintenance about truck repairs and maintenance.
  • Serve as point of contact for accidents and incidents on the road.
  • Call and follow up with customers; visit job sites to generate sales for dumpsters, scrap metal, or construction debris.

Job description

Summary

Assist the dispatcher in planning, directing, and coordinating the transportation operations within the company. Communicates back and forth with drivers to assist with problem resolution while on route for residential, commercial, roll-off, and construction jobs. Directs drivers and helps with service issues. Drives as necessary.

Essential Functions and Duties
  • a. Assist in dispatching drivers to various locations based on a schedule and as calls are received using customer needs and driver’s locations and loads
  • b. Assist in determining what times drivers are needed and staffing needs daily
  • c. Assigns routes and service tickets to drivers throughout the day and for the next day
  • d. Directs customer service representatives to make outbound calls to customers regarding drop off times and/or questions
  • e. Troubleshoots and resolves potential delivery and pick-up issues
  • a. Maintain accurate records and logs
  • b. Create and maintain truck files
  • c. Records and documents information from drivers and distributes to the appropriate departments
  • d. Communicates with maintenance departments regarding repairs and maintenance needed for trucks
  • e. Serves as a point of contact for accidents and incidents on the road
  • a. Call and follow up with customers
  • b. Visit job sites and potential customers to produce sales for dumpsters, scrap metal, or construction debris
  • c. Coordinate getting relevant information from potential customer to relay to management to produce a quote within 3 days
  • d. Answer and screen incoming calls for orders as needed.

  • c. Following company rules and federal, state and local laws

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills with the ability to handle multiple programs and systems. Must be highly organized and able to work well independently and as part of a team. Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate effectively and professionally via email, various messaging platforms, phone, and 2-way devices.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. 6-month relevant work experience is preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must possess class A CDL, minimum 6 months driving experience, minimum 6 months dispatching experience.
