Middlebury College in Vermont seeks an Assistant Director to support the College Writing Center as a professional writing tutor and to work with the Director to provide training and oversight of peer tutors. The position is full-time, benefits-eligible, and hourly, with a hiring range of $28.98 - $34.09 per hour. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in an academic field related to writing, rhetoric, education or composition studies.
• 2–3 years' experience teaching writing at the college level.
• Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds at a highly selective liberal arts institution.
• Experience with designing and leading training sessions for student employees.
• Demonstrated administration experience in the context of academic learning centers.
• Knowledge of current writing pedagogy.
• Ability to handle confidential material in a professional and sensitive manner.
• Ability to work with online course management systems and scheduling software.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary professional writing tutor for Middlebury students, assisting undergraduate students at all stages of the writing process across multiple subject areas and genres.
• Designs and leads trainings and workshops for peer writing tutors in coordination with the Writing Center director.
• Plans and conducts campus outreach, information sessions and workshops for students and faculty, and manages drop-in hours for the Writing Center.
• Establishes and maintains metrics for assessing outcomes and trends; leverages data analytics to track and evaluate student progress, engagement, and impact.
• Supports Writing Center director in managing administration of the Writing Center, including events and workloads for tutors and staff.
• Coordinates with CTLR units to staff the CTLR space in the Davis Library.
• Participates in CTLR-wide meetings on peer tutor programs and tutor training.
