Bucknell University is seeking an Assistant Director, Student Care & Support to join the Office of the Dean of Students. The role focuses on creating a safe, learning-friendly environment, supporting CARE & SOS programs, and coordinating intervention strategies for students of concern on campus.

The position reports to the Associate Dean of Students, involves on-campus work, and requires a Master’s degree with 2+ years of related experience; 4+ years in case management and CMS experience

  • Experience with Maxient CMS or similar CMS.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SOS & CARE caseload, including review of incoming reports, confirming and updating concern type, student outreach, intervention strategy, and advising students of campus resources.
  • Support Academic Flexibility Requests by collaborating with the Associate Dean, Health & Wellness, including documenting information and communicating with students.
  • Provide training for student staff in SOS and CARE processes, prepare training materials and assist with development of resources.
  • Serve as a resource for Student CARE & SOS, consult with faculty, Public Safety, Housing & Residential Life, Student Life and Title IX, and communicate with campus partners to share information and advocate for students.
  • Support management of Maxient CMS and contribute to monthly, semester and annual reporting, data review, and education/outreach planning.

Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Student Care & Support is a contributor to the Office of the Dean of Students at Bucknell University. The Assistant Director plays a vital role in providing a safe, consistent environment that is conducive to learning. The Assistant Director supports the University student Campus Assessment, Response & Evaluation (CARE) & Student Outreach & Support (SOS) programs by assisting students of concern, assessing potential risks to campus safety, and determining appropriate courses of action. Working with staff to understand the information gathered from multiple sources to develop a comprehensive understanding of each student situation, applying industry standards to guide assessment, follow‑up, case management, and documentation. Maintains cases, in collaboration with appropriate departments, supports the development and implementation of crisis management and behavior support plans for high‑risk situations. Facilitates effective, confidential communication among stakeholders, maintains accurate records of team actions and decisions, collaborates with external partners as needed, and plans and delivers training and outreach initiatives to promote awareness and support for addressing student concerns. The Assistant Director will develop collaborative and effective relationships with faculty and campus colleagues to coordinate effective intervention strategies and student support; support data collection; serve as a liaison, advocate, and resource for students. This position also serves as a member of the student affairs director on‑call rotation, including some evenings and weekends.

Job Duties

The position is gift funded for an initial two‑year term, with the possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

  • This is a full‑time role (40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year)
What You Will Do
  • Case Management: Manage as assigned SOS & CARE caseload, including review of incoming reports, confirming and updating concern type, student outreach, implementation of intervention strategy, and advise students of campus resources and support. Attend the weekly case management meeting with the SOS Leads/CDs as requested by the Associate Director, CARE & Support. Assist with weekly agenda for CARE & SOS meetings.
  • Academic Flexibility: The position involves supporting Academic Flexibility Requests through collaborating with the Associate Dean, Health & Wellness. This includes requesting documentation, communicating with students to support review requests, consulting on the submitted information, supporting the request outcome and documenting all action.
  • Training & Professional Development: In collaboration with the Associate Director, CARE & Support, provide training for student staff (RA, PA, JF, RF, etc.) in SOS and CARE processes, the resources available to them, and share opportunities for student staff members to engage with CARE & Support. Assist with training professional staff members as SOS Leads to provide support through SOS cases. Assist with the training and collaborate with staff to share resources offered through CARE & Support. Assist with the development and updates to training materials including slide decks, click‑throughs, caseflow documents and all associated print and digital forms and documents.
  • Outreach & Communication: Serve as a resource for Student CARE & SOS, consult with a broad cross‑section of institution and community stakeholders including, but not limited to faculty, Public Safety, Housing & Residential Life, Student Life and Title IX. Connect with reporters to confirm their report was received and support is being offered to student(s) of concern. Communicate with campus partners, faculty, staff, community members and students to share needed information, to advocate for students, and to build rapport with the campus community.
  • Data Management, Technology Optimization & Communications: Support the management of Maxient CMS and works to improve the efficiency and effectiveness by utilizing available technology. Engage in the routine review of system users, access levels and reporting forms. Support case analysis and monthly, semester and annual reporting. Engage in data review to support data‑informed decisions regarding student experience, service gaps and successes, campus trends and strategy to identify education and outreach to students and campus partners.
