Job summary

Washington State University is seeking an Assistant Director of Residence Life in Pullman, WA. This full-time, permanent role reports to the Director and supervises Residential Education Directors, coordinating desk operations across up to 12 halls and staff training initiatives.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience, with Master’s preferred. Duties include on-call responses, committee oversight, and collaboration with university partners.

Position Details
The Opportunity

As the Assistant Director of Residence Life , you will serve as a key member of the department’s administrative team and report directly to the Director. In this role, you will directly supervise and evaluate Residential Education Directors within the Washington State University (WSU) residence hall system and, through live-in professional staff, provide indirect supervision of paraprofessional staff. You will collaborate with live-in staff to ensure the effective coordination of desk operations across up to 12 residence halls, coordinate the planning and delivery of staff training initiatives, and oversee and advise an average of three departmental committees annually. You will provide support and response to student emergencies, including participation in an on‑call rotation, serve as a liaison with designated university partners, address daily administrative responsibilities and student and staff concerns, and assume additional departmental responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Information

This is a full‑time (100 % FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary

$5,598.97 to $6,255.82 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications
  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification.
  • Supervisory experience of graduate hall directors, paraprofessional staff or other personnel.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and practice of participatory management and community standards.
  • Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Windows and MS-Office computer software.
  • Must be willing and able to keep regular hours and work some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters’ degree in a relevant field.
  • Three years post-master’s experience working in a college or university residence hall system or group living environment.
  • Supervisory experience of full time live-in residence hall staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff training and development.
  • Demonstrated experience with large group presentations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of student development and academic success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students and administrators in a broad range of situations.
  • Demonstrated genuine concern/interest for the welfare of students.
  • Demonstrated experience with living, learning communities/academic success programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with faculty partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student and staff population.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing community in the residence hall and college campus environment.
  • Demonstrated record of or potential for ensuringaccessandopportunityin all aspects of our educational experiences in alignment with WSU’s land grant mission.
