Job summary

Georgia Public Library Service seeks a Library Director-level professional to provide administrative support to the Library Director and oversee library operations. You will lead collection development, supervise staff, and coordinate training to strengthen public services and access to resources.

The role includes pursuing grants and partnerships, and aligning annual goals with the system’s mission. A strong background in public libraries and customer service is essential.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Provides administrative and professional assistance to the Library Director in the direction and supervision of the library system. Responsible for assigned phases of library administration and services; performs managerial duties related to library operations, technical services, and public services for the library system.

Manages collection development and acts as head of the Materials Selection Committee. Maintains the collection by selecting and deselecting materials; establishing new collections; obtaining appropriate electronic and print resources. Responsible for collection development of print and digital formats for the system. Promotes intellectual freedom and equal access to information. Acts as Copyright Officer for the library system.

Develops and coordinates in-service training and continuing education for employees. Assists in hiring, evaluating, and training of library staff.

Assists in the formulation of annual goals and objectives that support the library system’s mission and meet service needs.

Works with the Director to investigate and pursue funding sources such as grant applications, library support groups, and collaborative efforts. Researches and recommends implementation of current and future library trends and innovations. Prepares and evaluates statistical reports.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

QUALIFICATION

MLS from an ALA-accredited program and must have Georgia G-5 certification.

A Minimum of 3 to 5 years of increasingly responsible administrative and supervisory experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of collection development. Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of library science; strong background in public/customer service, including public libraries.

Demonstrate management and supervisory ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Demonstrate knowledge of current trends and best practices in public services; strong commitment to public services;

Demonstrate leadership and the ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks effectively.

SALARY: $60,000 – $67,000, depending upon experience and qualifications.
