Senior Director of Network and New Technologies

OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Technology Director partners with the Director of Technology in managing the school’s enterprise infrastructure, technical support services, and data management systems. This professional supervises the IT support team and acts as a primary hands‑on day‑to‑day leader to ensure server uptime, robust cybersecurity, and frictionless hardware integration across all divisions. This position plays an integral role in long‑range technology planning, project implementation, budgeting, and operational leadership and is expected to assume increasing leadership responsibility over time in preparation for future departmental leadership.

The ideal candidate pairs deep technical expertise with the strong "customer service" mindset necessary to support faculty, staff, students, external vendors and parents in a mission‑driven manner to ensure technology systems are secure, reliable, innovative, and responsive to the needs of the School community.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assist in overseeing campus‑wide hardware life cycles, handling deployment and maintenance for access control, surveillance cameras, public announcement systems, radio communication.

Assist in maintaining core network architecture, including Wi‑Fi access points, fiber networks, network switches, and firewalls.

Assist in the management and use of the School’s MDM , (JAMF School)

Manage system performance to proactively identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and scalability.

Maintain comprehensive technical documentation , including system diagrams, configuration standards and operations procedures

Security Systems

Enforce campus security protocols including multi‑factor authentication (MFA), password policies, and endpoint security software.

Coordinate automated system backups and regular disaster recovery testing to maximize data resilience.

Assist in responding to surveillance, access and drill procedures, including badging management, access changes and drill feedback.

Support the School’s cybersecurity strategy by implementing and maintaining security best practices across all tech systems and staying current on emerging cybersecurity threats and recommend improvements.

Operational Leadership & Help Desk Management

Work closely with help desk staff and external vendors to set high customer service standards for the rapid resolution of support tickets.

Serve as an internal resource for faculty and administrative offices, evaluating software requests for compatibility and safety.

Direct technical event setups for campus gatherings, theater productions, guest speakers, and board of trustees meetings.

Track technology inventory logs and tickets and compile technical asset documentation for procurement tracking and auditing.

Leadership, Planning & Project Management

Partner with the Director of Technology to develop and implement the School's long‑term technology strategy and annual operational priorities.

Lead assigned technology projects from planning through implementation while coordinating timelines, budgets, vendors, and stakeholder communication.

Assist with departmental budgeting , purchasing decisions, capital planning, and long‑range replacement schedules.

Develop, maintain, and improve departmental policies , procedures, standards, and documentation.

Build collaborative partnerships across academic and administrative departments to understand technology needs and identify innovative solutions.

Serve as acting Director of Technology during the Director's absence, ensuring continuity of departmental leadership and operations.

Develop the institutional knowledge , leadership skills, and operational expertise necessary to assume increasing responsibility for the School’s technology operations over time.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (related certifications and/or experience in lieu of a degree is also acceptable)

3-5 years of progressive IT experience, preferably in an educational or non‑profit multi‑site environment.

Demonstrated mastery of network routing, cloud systems administration, database management, and cross‑platform hardware support (Mac, Windows, iOS).

Experience in an independent school, higher education, or similarly mission‑driven organization strongly preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

Strong understanding of LAN/WAN infrastructure, wireless networks, cloud technologies, and data systems.

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non‑technical audiences.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences.

Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, continuous learning, and providing exceptional support within a school community.

High level of discretion, judgment, and professionalism when handling sensitive information.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Standard school and office environment with frequent visits to various classrooms and campus buildings.

Must be able to frequently lift and move technical equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Occasional availability during nights or weekends to monitor scheduled maintenance windows or assist with school events.

Ability to work on ladders, under desks, in network closets, and other technology infrastructure spaces as needed.

Start Date: Immediate

Salary: $85,000 - $110,000, depending on qualifications and experience
This is a full-time, year-round, exempt, benefited position.
