Job summary

Florida Tech in Melbourne, FL, seeks an Operations & Projects Assistant to help oversee the L3Harris Student Design Center, Machine Shop, and Bio-MakerSpace used by student teams and researchers.

You will coordinate capstone and research projects, supervise hands-on training, work with students and faculty, manage budgets and procurement, and help organize events and showcases across campus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency.
  • CAD software and 3D printing knowledge preferred.

Job Description Summary

This position works under the supervision of the Director of Operations and Projects to assist in managing the operations of the L3Harris Student Design Center, Machine Shop, Bio-MakerSpace, and any additional spaces that student projects are conducted. The position involves working with students, faculty and staff to further the research, teaching, and overall betterment of student design projects and research. Assist in organizing and managing capstone projects/ research projects/ personal projects Assist in managing student design budgets and procurement of supplies including reconciliation of purchasing card Support students and faculty with management, planning and execution of design projects Supervise hands‑on training of students concerning assembly techniques and the proper use/safety of all machines located in the L3Harris Student Design Center and Machine Shop and other facilities where student projects are conducted Collaborate with machining staff in supporting manufacturing of capstone/ research/ personal projects Work in partnership with various departments on and off campus to execute activities for student project showcase events Support faculty of all colleges for capstone projects and oversee capstone advisor meetings. Attend classroom events as needed Organize/ Support student team travel and assist teams at project-related competitions Support university objectives, student tours, guest visits and events of the L3Harris Student Design Center and other locations where student projects are located Maintain key project records for Academic Accreditation and Finance requirements Supervise and train graduate student assistants, college role, and work studies in the L3HSDC and Machine Shop Other duties as assigned
