Ball State University welcomes applications for an Assistant Director of Student Life for Fraternity and Sorority Life.

As a member of the Office of Student Life, the Assistant Director is responsible for planning and implementing developmental programs for Fraternity and Sorority students, cultivate leadership skills, and other competencies for fraternity and sorority members. Support advising fraternity and sorority life governing councils on programs, policies, and related activities.




Master's degree from accredited institution of higher education by start date, or in lieu of a Master's degree a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with an additional two years of experience in higher education or adjacent field.




Experience working with college students or similar populations, evidence of skills in program planning and implementation.












Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in student affairs, college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling or a related field.




One to two year(s) of full-time experience working with fraternities and sororities; experience with advising governing councils and the member chapters; working knowledge of NIC, NPC, NPHC, NMGC, and NALFO organizations; experience developing leadership curriculum and related student learning experiences, and excellent oral and written communication skills.




Membership with an inter/national fraternity or sorority.

Duties & Responsibilities









Serve as the advisor to Fraternity and Sorority Life governing council(s) providing leadership development opportunities, trainings and ongoing guidance on programs, activities, university policies and regulations and administrative matters related to their organizations. Oversee the advisement of honor societies. Assist other governing council member organizations on programs and activities as appropriate.

Plan and implement Fraternity and Sorority Life community membership development and social programs. These include but are not limited to: annual Leadership Summit, Community Introduction Program, Flight Path Accreditation program; membership development program etc. Create curriculum for programs as needed. Manage logistics, technical support, staffing, training, transportation, marketing and other needs for all activities. Coordinate the implementation of formal recruitment and intake procedures, Awards, and the Council Officer Installation ceremony.

Ensure student members, leaders, chapters and councils learn about and proactively manage risk, register events, comply with university policies and procedures, safety and travel protocols, and best practices for student-led activities. Conduct risk management investigations involving these organizations.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, developing, and maintaining outstanding relationships that facilitate student engagement. Serve as a resource and referral agent for the campus and students affiliated with Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Maintain regular contact with fraternity/sorority advisors and regional, state, and/or national volunteer/officers.

Support current and new University retention initiatives including the use of university systems into the fraternity and sorority community; coordinate academic early-alert outreach efforts and necessary students of concern protocols for fraternity and sorority members.

Support preparing annual budget requests, monitor and approve expenditures, and adhere to all university business protocols and practices. Ensure proper handling of proceeds from fundraising efforts and donations. Advise and assist student organizations in the development and review of budgets.
