The Assistant Director of Mechanical Engineering will report to the Director of Mechanical Engineering and assist with the management of Mechanical Engineering Projects, management of the Mechanical Team and oversee the design of HVAC and plumbing projects.

Responsibilities
  • The Assistant Director of Mechanical Engineering will report to the Director of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Assist with the management of Mechanical Engineering Projects and the Mechanical Engineering Design Team including Mechanical Engineers and Project Engineers.
  • Assist with overseeing the design of HVAC and plumbing for commercial construction projects, ensuring design is in conformance with project requirements, code requirements, company standards and policies.
  • Assist with the training and work distribution to the mechanical and project engineers.
  • Participate in project and client meetings.
  • Design Mechanical/Plumbing systems for diverse markets (mission critical, communications, commercial, government, etc.).
  • Field verification and documentation of existing systems.
  • Coordinate and communicate Mechanical/Plumbing systems with other departments and disciplines.
  • Ensure design is in conformance with project requirements, code requirements, company standards and policies for production of construction/permit documents for design-build projects.
  • Coordinate self-performed work or delegate to the mechanical engineering design team and sub-consultants.
  • Survey and create as-built existing HVAC systems for renovation projects.
  • Piping sizing and routing of construction details and schematic diagrams.
  • Provide HVAC and plumbing system design solutions based on engineering principles.
  • Present and coordinate system design with client, owner, general contractor, PMI office staff, field crew and other team members.
  • Assist the Director in resolving engineering-related operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases.
  • Assist the Director in interpreting client requirements, identifying and addressing design parameters and engineering problems and ensuring solutions are implemented accurately.
  • Assist in engineering project budget and cost control.
  • Provide presentation materials for and attend project interviews.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in multiple states.
  • Professional experience in mechanical engineering design (HVAC, plumbing, process piping).
  • Experience in project management and cost control.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards.
  • Experience in self-performed work or delegating to design team and sub-consultants is preferred.
  • Familiarity with NCEES is preferred.
