Responsibilities

  • Oversight of awarding student financial aid and manage financial aid programs for Simpson University and all federal and state aid programs.
  • Coordinate endowed scholarships according to donor criteria.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with DOE and CSAC; reconcile federal loan and grant programs and Cal Grant monthly and year-end.
  • Manage third party billing and track benefits on student award letters; process third party invoices.
  • Perform federally mandated refund calculations for financial aid funds.
  • Calculate satisfactory academic progress and communicate outcomes to students.
  • Assist Director of Financial Aid with reporting as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in federal/state financial aid programs and develop policies accordingly.
  • Assist in managing financial aid awarding and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate with students regarding complex financial aid situations and award revisions.

Description

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the timely delivery of financial aid consistent with Simpson University policy and regulatory agencies, as well as all related financial reporting and compliance activities. Primary duties include oversight of packaging and awarding student financial aid, reconciliation of Cal Grant and federal grants, management of Simpson University endowed and non-endowed student scholarships and all related compliance areas. This position supervises the Financial Aid Technician positions. Secondary duties include student budget revision, outside scholarship processing, periodic file reviews, reporting and customer service. This position also serves as the certifying financial aid official for Simpson University.

Qualifications:

1.Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required

2.Thorough working knowledge of issues related to financial aid and accounting and their relevant regulatory reporting requirements (e.g. CSAC, IRS, DOE, etc.)

3.Minimum of three years’ experience in management of student financial aid programs and student financial aid delivery

4.Highly proficient in MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, etc.)

5.Strong computer application and relational databases management skills

6.Demonstrated self-starter and highly motivated

7.Excellent administrative abilities, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

Essential Functions:

1.Oversight of awarding student financial aid and manage financial aid programs for Simpson University and all federal and state aid programs in which Simpson University participates

2.Facilitate and coordinate the process for selecting students to be awarded endowed scholarships in accordance to donor criteria

3.Be responsible for regulatory compliance with DOE and CSAC, including reconciling federal loan and grant programs and Cal Grant monthly and at year end

4.Manage third party billing by accurately tracking benefits on student award letters and processing all third party invoices

5.Perform all federally mandated refund calculations for financial aid funds

6.Calculate satisfactory academic progress standing and communicate with students regarding the outcome of the calculation and the financial aid eligibility impact of the calculations

7.Assist Director of Financial Aid with reporting as needed

8.Research and maintain current knowledge pertaining to changes and proposed changes within federal and state financial aid programs in order to recommend and develop necessary policies and procedures

9.Assist the Director of Financial Aid in effectively managing financial aid awarding and ensuring regulatory compliance

10.Communicate with students as needed regarding complex financial aid situations and award revisions

Related Responsibilities:

1.Assist with the development of enhanced communication strategies

2.Support enrollment and retention efforts in the areas of financial aid processing, reporting activities, and related customer service
