Job summary

Culver Academies in Culver, Indiana, seeks an Assistant Director of Horsemanship and Instructor to lead and coordinate all aspects of the equestrian program, supervise instructional staff, and advance the curriculum for Horsemanship students.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of equine instruction, strong communication and supervisory skills, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel for overnight trips and events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; 8+ years in equine instruction, including an instructional qualification with a recognized national governing body.
• Excellent computer skills to deliver organization outputs.
• Capable horse trainer capable of training unbroken horses and maintaining trained horses as they develop in English ridden discipline.
• Minimum 5 years coaching English seat, show jumping, dressage, eventing, polo, western, or quad drill teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and deliver safe Military Parade formations.
• Prepare and assist with updating the curriculum.
• Brief and ensure Horsemanship staff follow the curriculum.
• Manage daily use of all horses for activities and welfare outputs.
• Monitor the herd and ride new horses to assess suitability.
• Ensure classes are conducted safely and safety protocols followed.
• Ensure students follow stable rules.
• Work with instructional staff on class allocations.
• Instruct the Lancer Platoon or Equestriennes; understand parade formations and teach classes.
• Assist with coordinating Parents Weekends, Alumni Weekends, and Graduation Weekend.
• Assist with coordinating any off-Campus participation of Students for special events.
• Work with the Director of Horsemanship.
• Participate in clubs and activities, coach equine athletic teams, supervise students, and handle other duties as assigned.
