Job summary

San Diego Mission Bay Resort is seeking an on-site Assistant Director of Engineering to partner with the Director of Engineering, lead the engineering team, and stay actively involved in maintenance and improvements across the resort.

With 8+ years in building maintenance, you will manage HVAC/R, plumbing, and electrical systems, champion the Green Initiative, and foster a collaborative culture while delivering safe, reliable operations for guests.

San Diego Mission Bay Resort is a sprawling 357-room resort, boasting multiple dining options, a beautiful pool, a kids pool, astonishing Bay views, fire pits and so much more. We are excited to welcome a new Chief Engineer to our Mission Bay Family.

THE JOB:

As Assistant Director of Engineering, you will work closely with our Director of Engineering to drive positive change, elevate standards, and make a meaningful impact across our 18-acre resort. You will lead a skilled engineering team while playing an active, hands-on role in maintaining and enhancing the property. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hospitality engineering leader looking to grow their career at a dynamic, resort.

KEY Responsibilities:
  • Lead and execute proactive Preventive Maintenance programs while responding efficiently to guest, member, and employee service needs.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and motivate a diverse engineering team, including HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, painters, and general maintenance professionals.
  • Actively support and advance the resort’s Green Initiative, identifying innovative strategies to reduce environmental impact.
  • Elevate overall property condition, safety, and guest experience through attention to detail and team collaboration.
  • Foster a positive, high-energy work environment that balances professionalism with fun.

  • A hands-on leadership style—expect to spend approximately 80% of your time working alongside your team in the field.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, dedicating about 20% of your time to scheduling, purchasing, work orders, and communication.
  • Extensive technical knowledge across HVAC/R, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a genuine passion for creating exceptional guest experiences.

This role is bonus eligible, with a potential annual incentive payout of 0%-33% of base compensation, subject to plan terms and performance criteria. This position is: $90,000-$105,000 annually.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 year building maintenance experience.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Prior experience leading teams in a multi-faceted hotel or resort operation is required.
  • Experience in a union environment is highly desirable.
