Job summary

City of Glendale, AZ is seeking an Assistant Director of Economic Development to provide strategic operational leadership and advance business attraction, retention, expansion, and redevelopment efforts. You will manage internal operations, budgets, and supervise staff to align with citywide economic goals.

You will lead complex negotiations with developers and site selectors, coordinate cross-department initiatives, and present to city leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in economics, planning, business, marketing or public administration
• Five years of program management experience in Attraction, Retention & Expansion, Redevelopment, Tourism, Marketing, or a related field
• Master of Science or Arts degree and/or CEcD preferred
• One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education

Responsibilities

• Serves as second in command to the Economic Development Director, ensuring continuity of departmental leadership and planning, organizing, and directing operations.
• Translates strategic priorities into actionable initiatives, programs, work plans, and performance measures.
• Leads day to day operations across key service lines including business attraction, BRE, business assistance, redevelopment, data analytics, and marketing.

Education

Bachelor's degree in economics, planning, business, marketing or public administration

Master's degree or CEcD preferred
