Job Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Assistant Director of Aquatics is responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, and supervising aquatic activities, safety, and maintenance of the aquatics facility. The role includes training and scheduling lifeguards and pool staff, overseeing the operation of pool equipment, and performing maintenance duties in accordance with Department of Health and New York State law.

Minimum Qualifications:

Key responsibilities, in coordination with the Director, include:

• Developing, implementing, tracking, and overseeing department programs.
• Assisting with staffing, recruiting, training, hiring, and evaluating lifeguards and swim instructors.
• Leading instructional swim programs in line with the Learn-to-Swim curriculum.
• Supervising the pool area to ensure staff monitor patrons and maintain professionalism.
• Ensuring compliance with the NY State Dept. of Health Sanitary Code for pools, especially regarding operation, supervision, and maintenance.
• Building relationships with members and participants through regular feedback.
• Collaborating with the Aquatics Director during summer camp programs.
• Working flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to cover shifts and ensure optimal pool operation.
• Performing other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director.

Qualities and Qualifications:

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients and staff.
• Commitment to exceptional customer service.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, hands-on environment.
• Minimum of three years in the aquatics industry.
• Certified WSI or ability to obtain within six months.
• Certified LGI or ability to obtain within six months.
• Certified CPO or ability to obtain within six months.
• Leadership and staff management abilities.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Salary: $50,000-$55,000, depending on experience, including benefits such as:

This is a full-time, in-person position, five days a week, with occasional evenings and holidays.
