Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals Queens Hospital Center seeks a senior nursing professional to assist in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing services and education programs within the Department of Nursing.

The role involves budget preparation, development of administrative procedures, and oversight of nursing education and quality assurance activities across major clinical units and home health settings.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field with five years of satisfactory nursing experience, three in supervisory or teaching capacity.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four in supervisory or teaching capacity.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience; must be licensed and registered as a Professional Nurse in New York State.

  • Assist in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing service and education programs.
  • Assist in preparing budgets for personnel, supply and equipment.
  • Develop administrative procedures and programs for patient care.
  • May plan and evaluate nursing service in a major division or home health agency.

  • May oversee evening and night tours of nursing service.
  • Direct activities of Supervisors of Nurses.
  • Prepare daily and periodic reports on staff and patient management.
  • Participate in quality assurance program for nursing.
  • Attend and chair regular nursing staff meetings.
  • Assess nursing services by rounds, chart review and evaluating patient care.

In 2002 the hospital opened a state-of-the-art, 261-bed facility that includes the Queens Cancer Center, the first comprehensive cancer treatment center in the borough.

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position: Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Nursing, assists with the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating of nursing service and education programs of the hospital, diagnostic and treatment center, or a major unit within the Department of Nursing. Performs related work.

Examples Of Typical Tasks
  • Assists in developing policies, objectives and standards of nursing service and education.
  • Assists in the preparation of personnel, supply and equipment budgets.
  • Assists in the development of administrative procedures and programs of patient care.
  • May have responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the nursing service in a major clinical division, or a home health agency in a hospital, participating in selection, placement and follow-up of patients transferred to homes.
  • Assists with the planning, organization and conduct of a nursing education program.
  • May assume responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing service on the evening and night tours.
  • Directs activities of Supervisor of Nurses.
  • Prepares and makes periodic and daily reports on administrative matters relating to staff and patient management.
  • Participates in the direction and implementation of a quality assurance program for nursing.
  • Attends and chairs regular staff meetings with nursing personnel.
  • Assesses nursing services by making rounds, conducting chart review and evaluating patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
  • A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. All candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
