The Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) is a livinglaboratory where we investigate the relationship between computertechnology, human activity, and society. Founded in 1993, the HCIIis a place where we work to understand and create technology thatharmonizes with and improves human capabilities, goals, and socialenvironments through interdisciplinary research and education indesign, computer science, and behavioral and social sciences. Weresearch how people work, play, and communicate within groups,organizations, and social structures, then we design, create, andevaluate technologies and tools to support human and socialactivities.
This position will play a criticalrole in supporting advancement in learning engineering research,research-informed educational technologies, and evidence-basedlearning experiences for grant-funded and externally facinglearning initiatives.
Core Responsibilities
Continuous Improvement
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvementacross center initiatives and related collaborations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implementchanges to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay current with both research and industry trends, standards,and advancements in educational technology.
Research, Strategy, and Collaborative Initiatives
- Collaborate with CMU faculty, research teams, RISE, Learnvia,and partner organizations on research-informed learninginitiatives.
- Assist the Director in developing strategic plans, priorities,and goals for learning engineering research initiatives,grant-funded projects, and professional
- education collaborations.
- Support coordination for projects and research studies thatevaluate learning design, learner support, and AI-enablededucational interventions in external and professional learningcontexts, translating findings into design improvements.
- Translate evidence from learning sciences, learning analytics,and applying educational research into scalable practices forprofessional education audiences and
- related research initiatives.
- Contribute to partnership opportunities that extend the reachand impact of learning engineering research and research-basededucation projects.
Senior Learning Engineering Project Work
- Collaborate with research teams to design and develophigh-quality, engaging, and effective learning experiences.
- Utilize data-driven insights and research to inform the designand continuous improvement of learning solutions and of the research theories underlying them.
- Stay current on research, emerging trends, and best practicesin learning engineering and educational technology, and adviseleadership by preparing reports and presentations to share findingsand recommendations.
Effective Uses of Technology
- Evaluate and recommend educational technologies and tools,including Generative AI solutions, that enhance teaching, learning,learner support, and research-based improvement.
- Consult on and model effective uses of technology forresearch-informed education and for research-informing educationalexperiments.
Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensuretransparency and alignment of learning engineeringinitiatives.
- Assist the Director in representing the learning engineeringteam in meetings, committees, and external partnerships.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree required.
- 5-8 years of relevant work experience required.
- A combination of education and proven experience from whichcomparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
