Job summary

The University of Memphis in Memphis, TN is seeking a senior leader for Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) within the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement. This management position serves as primary leader for FSL operations, advising governing councils and aligning programs with university priorities.

Responsibilities include strategic planning, budget oversight, supervision of staff, recruitment and education initiatives, and collaboration with university partners on hazing prevention

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive leadership and oversight for all Fraternity and Sorority Life operations, including budget management, data collection, assessment, and information sharing.
• Serve as the primary advisor to governing councils and provide leadership to all governing bodies within FSL.
• Develop and implement programs aligned with university priorities to support student learning and holistic development.
• Lead strategic planning with measurable goals and long-term objectives for the FSL community.
• Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance management for the Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
• Establish expectations and performance benchmarks to support professional growth and program excellence.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings for feedback and development.
• Create structured supervision plans for leadership development and effective student leader management.
• Lead recruitment and intake processes in compliance with laws and standards.
• Review and approve new member education programs for alignment with values and risk management.
• Develop educational initiatives focusing on hazing prevention, risk reduction, and bystander intervention.
• Coordinate procurement, vendor compliance, and event management for FSL activities.
• Stay informed on legislation and policies impacting fraternity and sorority operations.
• Perform additional responsibilities to support departmental goals.

Job description

Salary: $60,000 - $68,000 per year

This is a management level position within the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement. This position will serve as the primary leader to within Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL).

Fraternity and Sorority System Leadership

• Provide comprehensive leadership and oversight for all Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) operations, including budget management, data collection, assessment, and information sharing.
• Serve as the primary advisor to one or more governing councils (Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and College Panhellenic Council) and provide overall leadership to all governing bodies within FSL.
• Develop and implement programs that align with university priorities, support student learning, and advance holistic development through values-based leadership.
• Lead ongoing strategic planning efforts by setting measurable goals, identifying emerging needs, and developing long-term objectives that strengthen the FSL community.

Supervision

• Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance management for the Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life, ensuring alignment with divisional and departmental goals.
• Establish clear expectations and performance benchmarks that support professional growth, accountability, and excellence in program delivery.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide feedback, coaching, and support in the Coordinator and graduate assistant’s daily responsibilities and long-term professional development.
• Create a structured supervision plan that emphasizes leadership development, strategic thinking, and effective management of student leaders and programs.

FSL Recruitment and New Member Development

• Provide strategic leadership and support for all fraternity and sorority recruitment and intake processes, ensuring compliance with university, local, and inter/national organization laws and standards.
• Review and approve new member education programs to ensure alignment with organizational values, risk management expectations, and educational best practices.

Education, Compliance and Operations

• Develop and coordinate educational initiatives focused on hazing prevention, risk reduction, bystander intervention, and alcohol and other drug education.
• Collaborate with university partners to coordinate procurement, vendor compliance, and event management processes for FSL-related activities.
• Stay informed on current legislation, university policies, and national best practices that impact fraternity and sorority operations.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and divisional goals. (5%)
