Assistant Director for Safety, Security, Health, and Wellness

University Housing within the Division of Student Life invites applications for the position of Assistant Director for Safety, Security, Health and Wellness. The ADSSHW is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering a comprehensive, department-wide occupational and residential safety, security, and health program. The role involves using leading-edge concepts to establish and maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment for employees, students, and residents by identifying and correcting unsafe conditions.

The mission of University Housing is to provide a defining experience for students through programs and amenities that facilitate individual learning and development. We aim to connect students with leadership opportunities and positive learning experiences, offering programs, services, and a diverse community environment that foster growth, respect, and responsible behavior. Our goal is to provide safe, comfortable, affordable, and well-maintained housing facilities for over 8,500 residents across 15 on-campus residence halls. The department collaborates closely with various Student Life units and academic offices. Many former staff members now work at over 90 colleges and universities nationwide.

The Position: The ADSSHW will develop, implement, and manage policies, procedures, and training to address safety, security, and health issues. They will also develop criteria for safety audits and conduct routine inspections of facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • The ADSSHW leads investigations related to accidents, injuries, and safety, security, and health complaints, including industrial hygiene hazards.
  • Develops security protocols to ensure safe living environments, utilizing key controls, card access, CCTV, alarms, and landscape management to control sightlines.
  • Establishes and enforces safety policies aligned with campus, state, and federal regulations.
  • Evaluates atmospheric conditions using technical equipment and industry-standard procedures.
  • Develops exposure control strategies using IH sampling methodologies and makes decisions based on regulatory statutes and university policies.
  • Interprets complex standards, creates defensible strategies, and applies new regulations to campus operations.
