The Assistant Director (AD) of Housing Facilities is a full-time, 12-month position responsible for daily operations and facilities management in University Housing. Principal responsibilities include managing housing operations logistics, coordinating with campus facilities, maintenance, and custodial providers, overseeing maintenance and renovation projects, and promoting a safe, clean, and welcoming residential environment that supports student success. Additional responsibilities include staff supervision and staff development, administration and building management, in addition to other departmental and university responsibilities. The Assistant Director is required to be available for irregular hours, extended workdays, on-call emergencies, and weekends. This position is designated as essential personnel and is required to be present for emergency situations, including but not limited to: inclement weather, health crisis isolation response, etc. The AD provides direct support to residents, ensuring a safe and well-managed living environment. The AD demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service and student support. They utilize excellent interpersonal skills in communication with students, parents, colleagues, faculty, and staff. Central duties can include chairing departmental committees, departmental trainings, student leadership development and selection, and assessment. Strong collaboration between campus partners is important. The role of the AD has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act), which encompasses significant responsibilities regarding both students and the campus community. As CSAs, they are mandated to report any incidents disclosed to them that occurred on campus or in public areas.
Reporting directly to the Director of Housing, the incumbent assists with managing a complex business operation and possesses the authority to evaluate courses of action within the parameters of clearly established University policies and procedures, or under the supervision of the Director. Furthermore, the incumbent is required to obtain approval for decisions regarding budgetary matters within the Residence Halls. The Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations for University Housing & Residence Life is responsible for understanding and resolving problems that may significantly impact the residential facilities operations and serves to anticipate and troubleshoot these situations.
