Job Description

We seek an Assistant Director for Business Operations toprovide operational and administrative management and financialsupport to the areas within the Senior Director for StudentEngagement and Community Centers portfolio. The Assistant Directorprovides leadership and oversight for the business operations ofthe portfolio including HR administration, financial support,departmental administrative support, and US Passport AcceptanceFacility across Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) and theCultural and Community Centers (CCCs). This position ensurescompliance with university policies, directly manages departmentalfinancial transaction execution and has oversight of severaladministrative functions. The Assistant Director serves as a keyliaison between SECL, CCCs, and Student Affairs Finance andPlanning, while fostering a positive and professional environmentfor staff and students.

Here’s what you need to know about the role:
  1. 1. You will join Student Engagement and Campus Life, a departmentthat uplifts the student experience by cultivating affirmingenvironments and providing exceptional services.
  2. 2. You will report to the Associate Director for StudentOrganizations and Administration within Student Engagement andCampus Life, in a regular, full-time, 100% university staff appointment.
  3. 3. You will be responsible for leading business operations andadministration for Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) andthe Cultural and Community Centers (CCCs), serving as the primary liaison between the departments and Student Affairs Finance andPlanning. In this role, you will be the primary business partner toseveral service units within SECL and will design trainings topromote awareness and compliance with departmental and universitypolicies.
  4. 4. You will have the chance to grow and take advantage of aprofessional development plan with opportunities to advance withinthe Department and the Division.

Required Qualifications
  • o Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration orrelated field, or equivalent experience.
  • o Experience working with fiscal/budgetary operations.
  • o Demonstrated ability to create and sustain strong businessoperations.
  • o Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accuraterecords, partner with team members, and execute financialtransactions with precision.
  • o Ability to interpret and apply policies, exercising judgment,using problem-solving strategies, and maintaining confidential andsensitive information.
  • o Able to work independently and must possess initiative andcreativity to evaluate needs assigned.
  • o Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • o Professional communication skills and ability to interacteffectively with diverse audiences.
  • o Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,Teams, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
  • o Prior office management experience with knowledge ofoffice procedures.
  • o Experience supporting senior leadership in an administrative orfinancial management capacity.
  • o Office experience in a university setting
  • o Experience with Banner, HokieMart
  • o Experience with point-of-sale systems
