Job Overview

The Assistant Director, Athletic Communications and Creative Services/Communications Specialist I (Feature Content Specialist) at the University of Delaware is a key member within the University and Department of Athletics, supporting the mission of 'Achieving Excellence Together'.

Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Public Relations, this role involves creating engaging content—written, video, and audio—for the 22 athletic teams and over 600 student-athletes, as well as other departmental areas like Recreation and the Bob Carpenter Center. The content aims to enhance storytelling, promote the department, and increase engagement across various platforms including BlueHens.com and social media. The position also involves supervising students involved in content creation and may require travel to road events.

Responsibilities
  • Create original content to boost brand recognition, highlight athletes and coaches, and promote events and ticket sales.
  • Manage the content calendar for communications.
  • Oversee daily coverage of assigned sports across all platforms, including during games.
  • Assist in story development and content cataloging.
  • Engage with fans, gather feedback, and innovate content strategies.
  • Support coverage at events and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Analyze coverage data to inform future strategies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate best practices.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects) for content creation.
  • Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience, or equivalent education and experience. Preferred fields: Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Sports Management, Multimedia.
  • Proficiency in video recording/editing, Adobe Premiere, Spark, Photoshop.
  • Experience managing interns, volunteers, or students.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Drive.
  • Excellent communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
