Job summary

Florida International University is seeking an Assistant Director of Alumni Relations to coordinate and implement alumni engagement programs that foster lifelong connections with the university. You will manage the Panther Communities program, oversee Panther Alumni Week, and build relationships with alumni volunteers while collaborating with campus partners and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day administration of the Panther Communities program, including regional, affinity, and special interest communities.
  • Recruits, trains, supports, and recognizes alumni volunteer leaders serving Panther Communities and other volunteer engagement initiatives.
  • Serves as the primary staff liaison for assigned volunteer committees and alumni volunteer groups, providing guidance, resources, and ongoing communication.
  • Coordinates volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention efforts across multiple alumni engagement pathways.
  • Plans and executes Panther Alumni Week, collaborating with campus partners, alumni volunteers, and internal stakeholders to coordinate programming, logistics, communications, and volunteer involvement.
  • Coordinates volunteer-driven alumni events and engagement opportunities throughout the year, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and university priorities.
  • Works collaboratively with Advancement, colleges, and university departments to identify opportunities for alumni engagement through volunteer service, networking, mentoring, and educational programming.
  • Assists with planning and execution of alumni programs and events, including volunteer appreciation activities, networking events, reunions, webinars, and other engagement initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintains regular communication with alumni volunteers and community leaders, providing updates on university initiatives and opportunities for involvement.
  • Tracks volunteer participation and program outcomes, maintains accurate records within the alumni CRM, and prepares reports to evaluate engagement efforts and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assists in developing annual operating plans, calendars, and timelines for assigned programs.
  • Manages budgets for assigned volunteer programs and Panther Alumni Week, ensuring expenditures remain within approved funding levels.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team to promote volunteer opportunities, Panther Communities, and Panther Alumni Week through digital communications and social media.
  • Supports meetings and activities of the Alumni Board of Directors and assigned board committees as needed.
  • Serves as the merchant account's primary contact or technical contact; Handles sensitive cardholder information and/or processes credit cards transactions for the department/unit; Will have access to a third party system (software, gateway, etc.) that processes, transmits, and/or stores cardholder information. Handles cash and check transactions as needed.

Job Summary

Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience in higher education, alumni relations, development, event management, or a related field. Manages a major program and/or supervises support and professional staff.
