Job description

The Assistant Director would be granted signature authority, assist in locating and writing grants for the CORE, work on scheduling and procuring qualified adjuncts, and support budget and promotional materials. They will also provide support for Core Teaching Fellows, assist with the day-to-day functioning of the Core, and facilitate student interface. Additionally, the Assistant Director will act as a liaison with the Center for Academic Success, communicate with units across campus, confer with the Director on Core policies, maintain and organize assessment data and reports—including those from Signature Courses—and assist in the search for Core Teaching Fellows. This person would serve as the right hand of the Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Primary administrative support and assistance: Support the Core Director, students, and Fellows on University Core Curriculum issues, including academic advising, transfer advising, review and completion of student audits for graduation, and determining student graduation readiness in conjunction with the Core Director. This role includes signature authority on these matters.
  2. Recruitment, Hiring, and Promotion: Coordinate recruitment efforts and assist with hiring committees for Core Fellows and adjuncts. Collaborate with the Director to develop promotional materials for events and Core-related initiatives.
  3. Budget planning and management: Assist the Director with budget planning, review, and administration. Manage daily financial operations such as salary/stipend paperwork, vendor payments, supplies, and advertising.
  4. Scheduling: Establish the Core schedule, communicate with departments and schools, and develop policies to facilitate scheduling in Banner and departmental systems. Coordinate with the Center for Academic Success to manage approximately 85 sections per semester.
  5. Facilities management and oversight: Oversee ordering of supplies and equipment, manage contractors and printers, and supervise the use of the Core Office, Conference Room, and Core Center in Mooney Hall.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as philosophy, religion, theology, history, English, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of budget planning, administrative duties, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Strong analytical skills for developing schedules and communication strategies.
  • Experience in budget management and event coordination.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and internet research; familiarity with other MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with hiring processes for adjuncts or staff is preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a related field such as Philosophy, Religion, Theology, History, English, or relevant experience.
