Job summary

Michael Kors in New York City is seeking an Assistant Designer for Women’s Off Price, Knits & Sweaters. You will translate the brand aesthetic into seasonal knitwear and support the Senior Designer throughout the product design process.

Create sketches in Illustrator, assist with tech packs in PLM, and participate in fittings while collaborating with Sales, Merchandising, Production, and Technical Design. A Fashion Design degree and ~1 year of experience are required; hybrid NYC schedule is

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design required.
• ~1 year of related experience, full-time or freelance preferred.
• Understanding of garment construction.
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Experience with flats/technical drawings and CADs.
• Hybrid schedule: NYC office 3 days a week.
• PLM & Figma experience is a plus.
• Lab dip/strike off approval process experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Understand the Michael Kors aesthetic and translate it into seasonal products.
• Support and collaborate with the Senior Designer on the design process for Cut & Sew Knits and Sweaters.
• Conduct trend, market, and competitive research on a seasonal basis.
• Support knit mock-ups and sweater knit down development.
• Create sketches in Illustrator and update as needed.
• Assist in creating tech packs (BOMs, construction details, measurement charts) in PLM.
• Update tech packs after seasonal touch point meetings.
• Attend weekly fittings and take notes or update sketches/tech packs.

Who You Are:

You are a creative, collaborative, and detail-oriented designer with a strong sense of fashion and a clear understanding of the brand. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively, and take a solutions-oriented approach to challenges. You bring a strong design perspective and the ability to translate creative ideas into compelling, brand-right product.

What You’ll Do:

• Understand the Michael Kors aesthetic and translate it into seasonal products
• Support and collaborate with the Senior Designer on the entire product design process within Cut & Sew Knits and Sweaters categories
• Conduct trend, market, and competitive research on a seasonal basis
• Support Senior Designer in seasonal knit mock-ups and sweater knit down development
• Create sketches in Adobe Illustrator, including sketch updates as needed throughout product lifecycle
• Assist in creation of tech packs (BOMs, construction details, measurement chart) in PLM system
• Update tech packs in the PLM system after seasonal touch point meetings
• Attend weekly fittings; taking notes or updating sketches/tech packs where needed
• Communicate and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams (Sales/Merchandising, Production, and Technical Design)
• Communicate regularly and clearly to our overseas agents and global cross-functional partners regarding tech pack details and style updates

You’ll Need to Have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design
• ~1 year of related experience, full-time/freelance strongly preferred
• Understanding of garment construction
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
• Experience with flats/technical drawings and CADs
• Ability to work in our NYC office 3 days a week (hybrid schedule)
• PLM & Figma experience is a plus
• Lab dip/strike off approval process experience is a plus
