Job summary

Seattle University in Seattle, WA is seeking an Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to provide strategic leadership for undergraduate and graduate student support in the College of Arts and Sciences. You will oversee student services, advising, and lifecycle events from admissions to graduation, aiming to strengthen enrollment and inclusive academic excellence.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., Ed.D., or Master’s degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three to five years experience in academic advising administration.
• Knowledge of appropriate student development theory and a demonstrated capability for personalized advising practices.
• Demonstrated collaborative and successful working relationships with diverse stakeholders in an academic environment.
• Experience with university/college policies and procedures.
• Expertise in working with students at risk and knowledge of retention theory.
• Effective communication and other interpersonal skills; ability to present information in large venues.
• Knowledge of program assessment, learning outcomes, and evaluation techniques.
• Commitment to diversity and understanding Jesuit values in higher education.

Responsibilities

• Represent CAS as Dean’s Designee with the Office of the Registrar on petitions and policy reviews.
• Oversee quarterly academic standings and determine probation and dismissal decisions.
• Meet with students on academic suspension and determine reinstatement.
• Coordinate retention efforts and collaborations with Admissions, Advising, and Student Services.
• Plan and implement CAS graduation celebrations, scholarships, awards, and recognition processes.
• Plan CAS events and initiatives aligning with first-year persistence and student lifecycle events.
• Maintain student records integrity and ensure compliance with policies and deadlines.
