Position Summary: The Assistant Dean for Assessment and Accreditation coordinates and directs all assessment and accreditation activities for the teacher education unit at SUNY Cortland. This includes leading the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to candidate outcomes and providing support and direction to departments and programs undertaking self-studies and preparing for major accreditation reviews. The assistant dean maintains the teacher education unit’s assessment system and oversees the preparation of annual updates and progress reports required by the New York State Education Department, the federal government, national accrediting bodies, and other external agencies.
The position requires a high degree of communication and collaboration with teacher education program coordinators and department chairs as well as with professional staff in Institutional Research and Analysis, Information Resources, and Institutional Effectiveness. The assistant dean also serves as an active member of the Teacher Education Council and works closely with the dean and associate dean in the School of Education to ensure that all teacher education programs are meeting state and national standards of quality. The position is a 12-month obligation.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships: Reports to the Dean of the School of Education. Supervises the School of Education Data Manager and the Graduate Assistant assigned to the SOE Dean’s office. Works closely and collaboratively with the Associate Dean in the School of Education, teacher education program coordinators and department chairs, and staff in the Institutional Research and Analysis Office, the Field Experience and School Partnerships Office, and Information Resources.
