Job summary

The Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University seeks an Assistant Dean for Faculty Development to provide strategic leadership for faculty development across the college, mentoring chairs, guiding promotions and tenure, and aligning programs with institutional goals.

This twelve-month Medical Faculty role reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and leads educational initiatives, courses, workshops, and individualized consultation to advance teaching,

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD/DO, EdD) required.
• Meets criteria for Associate Professor or Professor rank at CMU College of Medicine.
• Demonstrated experience in faculty development in an academic setting.
• Strong collaboration in interprofessional education.
• Established credentials in medical education, leadership, and/or administration.
• Experience in professional development and mentoring of medical school faculty.
• A record of scholarly activity with expectation of continued scholarly activity in educational research.
• Experience in health professions education and commitment to innovative pedagogies.
• Ability to facilitate interactive learning in large and small group settings.
• Commitment to ensuring a respectful and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Office of Faculty Development staff to implement appointment, promotion, and tenure processes per bylaws and CMU policies.
• Mentor chairs in leadership roles across clinical, teaching, research, and service domains.
• Allocate time for clinical responsibilities based on qualifications and interests.
• Guide Department Chairs in assembling teaching portfolios for advancement and tenure decisions.
• Develop and coordinate programs to improve educational strategies and learner assessment.
• Coordinate with CMU Curriculum and Instruction Support for faculty programming.
• Plan succession and mentoring processes with Discipline Chairs.
