Summary
The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs andCurriculum provides leadership and coordination foracademic affairs, curriculum administration, assessment, andaccreditation within the Bitonte College of Dentistry. The positionsupports curriculum development and continuous improvement, ensurescompliance with accreditation standards, oversees academicprocesses and documentation, and facilitates collaboration amongfaculty and administrative stakeholders to support an integrated,student-centered DDS curriculum.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Curriculum
- Curriculum oversight and administration —Coordinate curriculum oversight, planning, scheduling, andadministrative processes to ensure alignment with college policies,educational objectives, and CODA standards.
- Resource coordination — Collaborate withacademic leadership, Department Chairs, faculty, and administrativestakeholders to coordinate faculty, instructional technology,learning space, and other resources necessary for effectivecurriculum delivery.
- Continuous improvement and innovation —Facilitate collaborative initiatives that support continuousimprovement of academic programs and the student educationalexperience, including educational innovation and evidence-basedteaching and learning practices.
- Interprofessional education — Facilitate thedevelopment and integration of interprofessional educationopportunities throughout the curriculum, in collaboration withfaculty and academic leadership.
- Assessment and evaluation — Coordinatecurriculum and teaching assessment and evaluation processes,including collection, analysis, and reporting of data to supportcontinuous improvement; support faculty and course directors withassessment and evaluation activities, documentation, andfollow-up.
- Monitoring and reporting to leadership —Monitor curriculum processes and outcomes to identify andcommunicate opportunities for improvement to the Dean andappropriate stakeholders.
- Documentation and accreditation — Oversee thepreparation, organization, and maintenance of curriculum,assessment, accreditation, and other academic documentation andreports required by the College, NEOMED, and external accreditingbodies.
Accreditation
- Accreditation Planning — Develop andcoordinate a comprehensive accreditation plan for the College,including policies, procedures, timelines, and processes thatsupport ongoing readiness and compliance.
- CODA Liaison — Serve as the primaryadministrative liaison to the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), coordinating communications, submissions, reportingrequirements, and accreditation activities on behalf of the BitonteCollege of Dentistry (BCOD).
- Self-Study Preparation — Lead the preparationand submission of the CODA self-study and related materials,coordinating the collection, organization, and maintenance ofdocumentation and evidence of compliance.
- Site Visits and Accreditation Activities —Coordinate accreditation site visits, mock reviews, meetings,webinars, and other accreditation activities, ensuring effectivecommunication and participation among College and Universitystakeholders.
- Standards Monitoring and InstitutionalCoordination — Monitor changes to CODA standards andrequirements, communicate updates to appropriate stakeholders,maintain accreditation records and deadlines, and coordinate BCODmaterials supporting NEOMED's Higher Learning Commission (HLC)compliance and institutional accreditation activities.
Committees
- Committee Structure and Governance —Coordinate the structure, administration, and ongoing activities ofBCOD committees in collaboration with the Dean and Collegeleadership, ensuring alignment with academic, operational, and CODArequirements; advise the Dean and senior leadership on committeecharters, responsibilities, membership, and governance processes tosupport effective College operations and accreditation.
- Records and Documentation — Centralize andmaintain official committee and faculty meeting minutes, records,action items, and related documentation to support governance,institutional continuity, and accreditation requirements.
- Communication, Facilitation, and Participation— Facilitate communication and follow-through among committees,faculty, academic leadership, and University offices; provideadministrative leadership for curriculum and academic oversightcommittees, and participate in College and University committees,task forces, and working groups as assigned.
Strategic Planning
- Monitor and manage the Academic Affairs department budget,provide input to other budgetary areas in the BCOD.
- Participate in strategic planning activities for the College ofDentistry and make strategic recommendations aligned with the mission, vision and values of the college, as well as CODAstandards.
Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a healthcare, education or in a related area, orEd.D.
- Required high-level administrative experience in highereducation at an accredited college or university in the UnitedStates or Canada.
- A minimum of five years' experience in educationadministration, curricular development and implementation.
- Administrative experience in curriculum development with anin-depth understanding and knowledge of academic accreditationprocesses, preferably the requirements and expectations ofCODA.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to championeducation within an academic institution, as well as among a widerange of external constituencies.
