Job summary

The Metropolitan Museum of Art seeks an Assistant Curator of American Textiles to research, catalog, and interpret textiles in the American Wing. You will propose installations and publications, collaborating with curators, conservators, and educators to broaden narrative threads across the collection.

You will lead tours, contribute to public lectures, and engage diverse audiences, donors, and scholars while advancing inclusive programming and DEIA initiatives across Museum activities.

Qualifications

• Master's degree with specialization in American textiles; PhD or ABD preferred.
• Experience with textile handling and conservation practices.
• Proven track record of scholarly research and publication in American art and textiles.

Responsibilities

• Research and refine the American textiles collection within the American Wing.
• Lead gallery installations and contribute to accompanying publications.
• Develop training sessions for American Wing volunteers and guides.
• Cultivate and steward donors for acquisition and fundraising support.
• Lead tours of departmental exhibitions and participate in public lectures and programs.
