Job summary

The Brooklyn Museum is seeking a Museum Instructor/Curatorial Assistant to support American Art and Arts of the Americas. The role focuses on collection- and exhibition-related projects, admin support, and scholarly writing in collaboration with curators.

You will engage with researchers, schools, donors, and the public while helping shape exhibitions, didactics, and labels. Familiarity with TMS and strong research skills are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or related humanities field or 2–3 years museum experience.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized with ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with collaborative projects in a cultural or museum setting.
  • Background in scholarly research and writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic office functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support for the department and curators.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for collection- and exhibition-related inquiries.
  • Maintain departmental files and TMS records related to objects, artists, and exhibitions.
  • Field scholarly inquiries and organize collection visits from researchers and the public.
  • Assist with exhibitions, including proposals, checklists, and installation planning.
  • Draft exhibition texts, labels, and didactics; conduct research as needed.
  • Lead selected research projects related to collections and potential loans.
  • Write social media posts about works in the collections.
