Job summary

Core Scientific, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Critical Facilities Manager to oversee day-to-day data center operations on site in a high‑performance environment. You will lead technicians, manage power and cooling, and ensure uptime and safety across critical systems.

You will coordinate maintenance, supervise shifts, and drive compliance with SLAs while partnering with leadership to evolve operations and CMMS processes for efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mission‑critical operations or related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in mission‑critical environments.
  • 1+ year of direct management of non‑exempt shift-based employees.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Experience creating and managing a preventive maintenance program.
  • Experience establishing a new data center or data hall is preferred.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills for cross‑functional collaboration.

  • Enforce adherence to SLAs and change control.
  • Schedule and review work by contractors and vendors.
  • Provide leadership in the manager’s absence and support site tours as required.

Assistant Critical Facilities Manager
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the management of the day-to-day operation and maintenance of critical and non‑critical data center infrastructure, equipment, and systems.
  • Build a staff of technicians with the necessary skill sets to accomplish data center operations that deliver total availability (100% uptime) while minimizing risks for customers.
  • Manage power and cooling capacity and monitor environmental conditions within data halls.
  • Work shifts to support 24x7 data center operations, having flexibility in work hours to cover other shifts and support maintenance activities as needed.
  • Resolve all electrical, mechanical, and fire protection system issues in the data center while minimizing risks and communicating issues to management and customers.
  • Assist in a leadership capacity, coordinating data center construction and commissioning, and overseeing the transition from construction to sustainable operations.
  • Review results from preventive maintenance inspections and provide guidance on how to address issues found.
  • Assume an ownership stake in the ongoing evolution and operation of the facility's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring all staff adhere to company standards for using the CMMS.
  • Oversee accuracy and completeness of the CMMS, producing operational reports as needed.
  • Enforce strict adherence to customer SLAs and change control activities.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and review work handled by outside contractors and vendors.
  • In the absence of the manager, assume a leadership role with limited authority.
  • Assist with site tours for current and future customers as required.
  • Manage work schedules and assignments.
  • Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team as well as with co‑workers, teammates, and leaders across the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study or technical school with an emphasis on mission‑critical operations, high‑performance manufacturing, or relevant military operations.
  • Equivalent experience is required.
  • 3+ years’ experience in mission‑critical environments.
  • 1+ year(s) of direct management of non‑exempt shift‑based employees.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Experience creating and managing a critical infrastructure preventive maintenance program.
  • Experience establishing a new colocation data center or data hall is preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal employees, leaders, external contractors, and customers.
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making skills for understanding and evaluating complex problems, identifying solutions, and selecting the best solution.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high‑pressure, mission‑critical environments.
  • Ability to understand and train others on electrical and mechanical systems and other technical aspects of critical systems management.
  • Ability to read and understand complex drawings, systems, and other documentation.

Occasional travel between data centers may be required as needed.

Work Environment

This job operates in a data center, office, and shop environment. The role routinely uses standard maintenance equipment, including ladders, scissor lifts, forklifts, power tools, and voltmeters. Work may involve hot and cold environments.

Physical Demands

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time, onsite position. Shifts may vary according to the site. Provide on‑call support and respond to all data center emergencies 24/7, including on‑site response outside of scheduled shifts.
